:  the upper and smaller of the two sensory ganglia of the glossopharyngeal nerve that may be absent but when present is situated in a groove in which the nerve passes through the jugular foramen—called also jugular ganglion; compare inferior ganglion 1

:  the upper of the two ganglia of the vagus nerve that is situated at the point where it exits through the jugular foramen—called also jugular ganglion, superior vagal ganglion; compare inferior ganglion 2
